Daria Rubailo, Deputy Head of the Chemistry and Medicine Division of the Examination Department of the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO), spoke at the session of the Eurasian Pharmaceutical Summit (hereinafter Summit), which was held on September 26-28, 2023, in Samarkand, Republic of Uzbekistan.

The session “Intellectual property as a factor of investment attraction to the markets of CIS countries” was held in the Summit framework. During this session, management and enforcement of intellectual property were discussed as factors that raise investments in the pharmaceutical Eurasian markets.

Daria Rubailo made a presentation on the EAPO Pharmregister and the prospects for its use by a variety of stakeholders involved in the manufacturing, registration and circulation of medicines on the territory of the EAPO Member States.

The participants discussed intellectual property challenges that companies face in Eurasian countries and their potential solutions based on the national and international experience of the countries. They demonstrated tools for intellectual property protection, which helped to stimulate the development of the pharmaceutical industry, increase the availability of innovative drugs for the population, and raise investment in this field. During the session, the participants also presented the results of a large-scale study “Protection of Intellectual Property in the Pharmaceutical Market of the Republic of Kazakhstan: Solutions and Recommendations”. It covered intellectual property protection in pharmaceuticals in the Republic of Kazakhstan and the EAEU.
