On March 27, 2024, the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO), together with the Russian State Academy of Intellectual Property and the Assembly of Eurasian Patent Attorneys, held a seminar titled “Specific Features of the Eurasian Procedure for Patenting Inventions and Industrial Designs”. Representatives of the national patent offices of the EAPC Contracting States also took part in the seminar.

Sergey Averkiev, Director of the EAPO Examination Department, Eduard Shablin, President of the Assembly of Eurasian Patent Attorneys and Head of the Moscow Division of Patentica, and Gennady Zolotov, Director of the Forensic Examination Department of the Russian State Academy of Intellectual Property, welcomed the participants of the seminar and highlighted the importance of effective cooperation between the EAPO and the professional community of Eurasian patent attorneys for the improvement of the Eurasian patent system.

Aurelia Ceban, Deputy Director of the EAPO Examination Department and Director of the Chemistry and Medicines Division, and Asemgul Abenova, Director of the Industrial Designs Division of the EAPO Examination Department, highlighted the specific features of the Eurasian patenting procedure for inventions and industrial designs during the first part of the seminar.

In the second part of the seminar Eurasian patent attorneys, namely Maria Makhlina, Partner, Head of Patent Prosecution Department of A. Zalesov & Partners Patent & Law Firm, and Elena Yudina, Patent Attorney in the Gorodissky & Partners Law Firm, shared their experience of using Eurasian patenting procedure for inventions and industrial designs.

One of the peculiarities of the seminar was the round table discussion “Improving the Eurasian Patenting Procedure for Inventions and Industrial Designs Together: Response to Questions Received” moderated by Elena Gavrilova, Head of the EAPO Quality Monitoring Centre.

During the round table discussion, Elena Gavrilova made a presentation on the EAPO quality management system and its improvement. A number of inquiries made by applicants and their representatives during the preparation for the seminar were addressed.

Furthermore, the participants had an opportunity to discuss the improvement of the Eurasian patent procedure with the EAPO representatives during the round table discussion.
