Asemgul Abenova, Director of the Industrial Designs Division of the Examination Department of the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO), told the participants of the international exhibition Fashion Style Russia about the need for patents for fashion designers and manufacturers of clothing and accessories.

Fashion Style Russia is held twice a year. The FSR business agenda includes fashion shows, professional discussions, round tables, meetings with experts and master classes.

The expert session “How to Protect and Use Brands Properly: All about Licensing, Collaborations and Patents” was devoted to the protection of intellectual rights in the fashion industry. The speeches and conversation of examiners from the EAPO, the Federal Institute of Industrial Property, the publishing house “Licensing Russia” and law firms were moderated by Irina Ozolina, senior partner of the patent law firm “A. Zalesov and Partners”.

Asemgul Abenova’s presentation was focused on peculiarities of the Eurasian system of patenting industrial designs, the possibilities of using this system to protect the intellectual rights of stylists, fashion designers, manufacturers of clothing, shoes and accessories, the need to protect intellectual rights when entering international markets.

Professionals discussed how the Eurasian design patent and the patent of the Russian Federation can be used as a design protection tool, the impact of digital transformation in the field of IP on the fashion industry and key global trends in the field of intellectual rights.
