Chairman of the Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan Kamran Imanov took part in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) study “Models of management and administration of intellectual property”.

As part of the study, the Head of the Agency gave an extensive interview to the leading experts from the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (Germany), Prof. Nikolaus Thumm and Christopher Scholz.

During the interview, Kamran Imanov mentioned that Azerbaijan had joined 15 countries out of 204 national intellectual property offices all over the world that had met the study’s goals and whose successful experience was noted by WIPO. According to the Chairman of the Board of the Agency, such results were achieved due to the reforms carried out by the President of the country. The radical reforms implemented by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in all spheres are based on creative entrepreneurship, investment, and innovation support in the development of intellectual property, along with competitive markets. This approach implies reinterpreting and defining the concept of the intellectual property category, exploring IP as an interrelation between economics, sociology, and law.

The main goals of the study conducted by WIPO are to examine different forms of intellectual property management and administration, to describe their main characteristics and dynamics, to promote the application of good practices, and to develop recommendations for methodological assistance to intellectual property offices. WIPO entrusted the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (Germany) with this study.
