CIS countries will develop cooperation in the IP field

Grigory Ivliev took part in the 13th meeting of the Interstate Council on the Issues of Legal Protection and Enforcement of Intellectual Property (MGSIS), held in Moscow under the chairmanship of the Russian Federation. For the first time representatives of Azerbaijan took part in the MGSIS meeting as observers.

At the meeting, the Plenipotentiary Representatives of the CIS countries discussed the current work and prospective areas of cooperation in the IP field. Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan presented information on the improvement of national legislation, adoption of strategic documents in the field of IP, as well as activities to prevent infringements in this area, and to implement educational projects.

The meeting participants supported the proposal to upgrade the CISPATENT project for the formation of platform decisions using new information tools on the basis of the Rospatent’s experience. The scope of data is planned to be expanded with information on trademarks, utility models, and industrial designs. The speed of information publication is planned to be increased using automatic translation. MGSIS also supported activities on IP object assessment guidelines by examining best practices in member states.

Grigory Ivliev presented his report on the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO) integration projects in the IP sector and prospective areas of development of the Eurasian patent system.

— It is necessary to coordinate the activities on integration projects. All member states and associations of different formats — CIS, EAEU, Union State — have common objectives. This is the development of innovation potential, more active use of IP mechanisms for scientific and technological development.

Today, countries have presented their national projects and achievements in the field of protection and enforcement of rights, strategic areas of activity in the IP field. They contain universal elements — the development of IP ecosystems, the use of intellectual property in the real sector, providing support to authors and involvement in inventive and creative activities of new categories — young people, small and medium enterprises. The relevant objectives are also set in the CIS Economic Development Strategy until 2030.

I am convinced that we can achieve these ambitious objectives faster and more effectively in case we work together and use all available national and supranational instruments, — stated the EAPO President.
