Daria Rubailo, Deputy Director of the Chemistry and Medicine Division of the Examination Department of the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO), spoke at a session of the Eurasian Pharmaceutical Forum, which takes place from February 29 to March 1, 2024, in Almaty, Republic of Kazakhstan.

The session “Intellectual Property Protection as a Key Element of Successful Innovation Development and Guarantee of Investment Security” was held as part of the Forum. Elements of IP management and protection that attract investments to pharmaceutical markets in Eurasia were discussed during the session.

Daria Rubailo made a report on the Eurasian Pharmaceutical Register and the possibilities of its use by a wide range of persons engaged in the production, registration and turnover of medicines on the territory of the EAPC Contracting States.

The participants discussed approaches to the creation and protection of patent portfolio in the countries of the Eurasian region, possible solutions based on national and international experience of the countries, problems of market entry after the expiry of a patent (One Day Launch doctrine). In addition, a case study was used to deliberate on strategies to prevent trademark infringement and illegal importation of medicines.
