The XXVII International Scientific and Practical Conference “Intellectual Property for State and Society” (hereinafter – Conference) started today in Rospatent. The President of the Eurasian Patent Office (hereinafter – EAPO) delivered a speech at the plenary session of the Conference.

Grigory Ivliev focused on the cooperation between the EAPO and the Federal Service for Intellectual Property as well as on the patent activity of Russian residents in the Eurasian space.

“We have recorded a 25% increase in the number of Eurasian applications filed by Russian applicants for the first 8 months of 2023 compared to the same period last year,” said Grigory Ivliev, EAPO President.

The EAPO President claims that Russian citizens who obtain Eurasian patents valid on the territory of eight Eurasian countries are able to enter the markets of neighboring countries with cutting-edge technology. Grigory Ivliev believes that the percentage of Russian exports to Eurasian countries will only increase.

“Business interests of Russian producers cause such an increase in the number of applications from Russia”, stated the President of the EAPO.

The EAPO President also emphasized that it is important to take into account Eurasian patents that provide access to numerous markets while compiling the National Rating of Scientific and Technological Development in the regions of the Russian Federation.

The EAPO President also focused on the cooperation between Rospatent and the EAPO. It helps to create a Eurasian information and examination space, harmonize national and regional legislation, and expand Rospatent’s digitalization initiatives across the entire Eurasian region. Cooperation between Eurasian Offices in the field of digitalization will simplify the automatization of processes and expand the use of common electronic services. This will simplify the work in the Offices and the use of these services by applicants.

The Head of the EAPO also urged the active joint use of outsourcing practices proven in Russia for the examination of Russian and Eurasian applications.

“I am convinced that integration mechanisms have played a significant role in overcoming development challenges in the current situation. It is possible to integrate industry experts, resources and services for the benefit of all countries in the Eurasian space”, emphasized the EAPO President.
