Grigory Ivliev, President of the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO), took part in the seminar “Legal protection of design and development of the system for the legal protection of industrial designs in the Eurasian region” (hereinafter seminar), organized in cooperation with Qazpatent on October 20.

“We appreciate the fact that the seminar takes place in Astana. The Protocol to the Eurasian Patent Convention was signed here as a result of the Diplomatic Conference in 2019. It formed the basis for the Eurasian protection procedure.

All the participants recognize the importance of an attractive design for any product. External appearance significantly influences the commercial success of a product.

This object is greatly underestimated in Eurasian countries. We are working hard in order to promote the legal protection of design”, said Grigory Ivliev.

The EAPO examiners demonstrated the advantages and features of the regional system for industrial design registration, application and examination procedures. Furthermore, they presented the EAPO electronic services, including those involving modern 3D digital formats.

The colleagues from Qazpatent made reports on the practice of the Republic of Kazakhstan in protecting rights to industrial designs and the use of various IP objects for design protection.
