The number of Eurasian patents granted annually to women inventors has increased 4.5 times in 10 years
EAPO President Grigory Ivliev took part in the 2nd Eurasian Conference of Women Inventors and Technological Entrepreneurs. It was held in Moscow and united women engaged in invention, rationalization, innovation, and technological entrepreneurship in various fields.
According to WIPO, the number of patent applications for inventions worldwide was more than 3.5 million in 2023. Approximately 25% of all inventors were women.
Women inventors received 753 Eurasian patents in 2023, accounting for 20% of the total number of patents granted. According to Grigory Ivliev, these statistics do not imply that women are less creative. Women’s intelligence has not yet reached its full potential in terms of technological advancement.
“Women inventors face a number of challenges. These include lack of funding, difficulties in commercializing inventions, and, unfortunately, gender stereotypes that still hinder the advancement of women entrepreneurs. Historically, social and cultural stereotypes have kept women out of science and technology,” Ivliev said.
Women inventors in Eurasia are mostly interested in medicine, veterinary medicine and hygiene, chemistry, measurement and data processing, and technological processes. Another feature of the Eurasian region is the innovative contributions made by women in construction, mining, and engineering.
