The number of Eurasian industrial design applications filed last year increased in 1.5 times
The EAPO received 562 Eurasian design applications in 2024. This is a 52% increase compared to 2023.
The most popular classes of the International Classification for Industrial Designs:
- Packages, containers, and containers for the transport or handling of goods
- Vehicles and lifting devices
- Articles of clothing, haberdashery
- Furnishing
In 2024, the EAPO granted 402 patents for 961 industrial designs. This is an increase of 28.4% compared to the previous year.
A total of 870 patents for 2,076 industrial designs were granted for 2021-2024.
Applicants from 17 countries received patents in 2024. Applicants from the Netherlands, the UAE and the Republic of Korea received Eurasian patents for the first time.
As of 4 January 2025, the Eurasian design patent covers all 8 countries. Turkmenistan has acceded to the Protocol for the Protection of Industrial Designs to the Eurasian Patent Convention.
EAPO President Grigory Ivliev noted that the steady dynamics in the filing of Eurasian applications for industrial designs demonstrates that business sector is interested in the regional system of protection.
“We find it important that Turkmenistan has adopted a law on accession to the Protocol for the Protection of Industrial Designs on the 5th anniversary of its signing. It provides new opportunities for applicants. The full membership of the EAPO member states provides new opportunities for the EAPO to integrate into the global registration systems,” Grigory Ivliev said.
