The first step for Russian exporters to expand their business is to obtain a Eurasian patent
EAPO President Grigory Ivliev made a report at the VI International Research-to-Practice Conference “Intellectual Rights: Challenges of the XXI Century,” which was held in Tomsk. The participants discussed the challenges of IP system development.
The Tomsk region actively cooperates with Belarus and Central Asian countries. The goods produced by fuel and energy, agro- and timber sectors are driving the expansion. The increase in non-resource exports is currently one of the tasks.
“Protecting their IP rights abroad is crucial for exporters of technological goods. The first step for Tomsk entrepreneurs having innovative goods with export potential to expand their business and gain access to global markets through the region is to obtain a Eurasian patent,” Mr. Ivliev said.
Grigory Ivliev presented the advantages of the Eurasian patent system, which is of great interest to the business sector in the Eurasian region.
“We believe that the share of Russian exports to Eurasian countries will increase in the current economic environment. Russian exports mostly target neutral or friendly countries. States in the Eurasian region will have priority in this situation,” Mr. Ivliev stated.
The EAPO provides reductions for certain categories of applicants: state universities and educational organizations pay 30% of the total fees, while individuals pay only 10%.
