The 3rd International Conference of the Assembly of Eurasian Patent Attorneys, “The Eurasian Patent System. The Present and the Future,” organized with the support of the EAPO and the Committee on Intellectual Property Rights of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan, brought together patent attorneys, examiners, business representatives, and members of the professional community to discuss pressing issues regarding the development of the intellectual property sector in the Eurasian region.

The conference opened with a speech by Eduard Shablin, President of the Assembly of Eurasian Patent Attorneys.

Grigory Ivliev, President of the EAPO, delivered a video address, noting the significance of the topics up for discussion.

“I am convinced that professional dialogue will contribute to strengthening international cooperation and identifying the most effective forms and methods of work. A consolidated position among patent attorneys, examiners, and the business community will help make the Eurasian system even more effective,” he emphasized, wishing the participants fruitful work.

EAPO Vice President Vladimir Ryabovolov also delivered a welcoming address, noting that the rapid development of technology presents the professional community with new challenges and requires constant improvement of approaches to IP protection.

As part of the discussion “The Impact of AI on the IP Market: Trends and Prospects for the Next 5 Years,” which featured Denis Zastavny, Director of the EAPO’s Information Technology Department, and Elena Makhankova, Deputy Head of the EAPO Quality Monitoring Center, solutions being implemented at the EAPO as part of its digital transformation were presented, including a chatbot for users and a neural assistant for patent examination.

Conference participants also focused on issues related to current trends in law enforcement practices, and the problem of the distribution of counterfeit goods on the internet and marketplaces.

The second day of the Conference will be devoted to the development of the Eurasian industrial design protection system, the commercialization of IP in the new technological environment, and current issues in trademark examination.

As part of the session marking the fifth anniversary of the Protocol on the Protection of Eurasian Industrial Designs, Asemgul Abenova, Head of the Industrial Designs Division at the EAPO Examination Department, will deliver a presentation.

Meetings with users of the system are an essential part of the EAPO’s ongoing efforts to improve its work and effectiveness. Open discussions and the exchange of practical experience is a great opportunity to receive first-hand feedback, better understand the challenges faced by applicants and representatives, and continuously refine Eurasian procedures and services in response to the needs of the professional community.
