The 17th International Eurasian Pharmaceutical Forum took place in Almaty on 27–28 January 2026, bringing together representatives of regulatory authorities, international and local pharmaceutical companies, industry associations, and expert communities.
The Forum focused on the challenges the Eurasian pharmaceutical market is currently facing and the conditions needed for its sustainable development. Particular attention was given to the role of intellectual property as a strategic tool for innovation, and long-term competitiveness in the pharmaceutical sector.
One of the key events of the Forum was the panel session “Modern Models of IP Protection and Management in the Pharmaceutical Industry.” Participants discussed practical and regulatory aspects of pharmaceutical patenting, IP strategies for pharmaceutical products, patent term extensions, compulsory licensing, and patent litigation in the Eurasian region.
During the session Artem Yezhov, Chief Examiner of the Chemistry and Medicine Department of the Eurasian Patent Office, outlined approaches to comprehensive IP protection in the pharmaceutical field and highlighted the advantages offered by the Eurasian patent system. He also addressed specific issues related to the patenting of new forms of pharmaceutically active substances and presented the advantages of the Eurasian pharmaceutical register.
