The EAPO delegation is promoting the Eurasian patent system in 3 major cities of Northeast China, namely Shenyang, Changchun, and Harbin.
EAPO President Grigory Ivliev highlighted a steady growth in the number of Chinese inventions patented in Eurasia recently.
The number of invention applications increased by almost 10% in 2024. In 2024, China is the third-most active EAPO applicant. More than half of the valid patents are maintained in the territory of all 8 EAPC member states.
“This means that Chinese companies are seeking the most comprehensive regional protection. The largest number of valid patents covers organic chemistry and pharmaceuticals. However, a large share of Chinese exports to Eurasian countries is machinery and equipment. Therefore, we believe that getting Eurasian protection is a promising task for a large number of Chinese companies. The supply logistics make regional IP protection more relevant,” said Grigory Ivliev.
During a few days, EAPO examiners inform Chinese representatives about the advantages of the Eurasian patent system, the specifics of the procedure and digital services. This week China will host 3 IP Eurasia seminars.
