Press Release on EAPO Delegation Participation in the Regional Seminar in Tashkent, Uzbekistan

May 17-18, 2017: Regional workshop on Patents and Electronic Filings Systems, jointly organized by the Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the World Intellectual Property Organization, was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on May 17 and 18, 2017.

The workshop participants became familiar with the international, regional and national systems of industrial property protection, studied the WIPO policy on strengthening international cooperation in the field of intellectual property, electronic service provision and establishment of electronic systems which support the implementation of the policy, among others, within the frameworks of Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). The representatives of EAPO as well as patent offices of the Russia, Korea, Japan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan presented results of work on the development of electronic means for filing applications, automation of office procedures, publication, etc.

The Eurasian Patent Office representatives delivered two lectures during the workshop. The first lecturer provided the audience with the information on the Eurasian patent system, the advantages of regional patenting, the principles of organization of electronic document workflow in the Eurasian patent procedure. The second lecture was on electronic products and services, which EAPO provides to applicants and general public.

In the course of the workshop EAPO President S. Tlevlessova met with A. Fayzullaev, Director General of Intellectual Property Agency of Uzbekistan, where the Heads discussed the current performance of the two institutions, issues on cooperation and ways of expanding collaboration.
