Press release of the negotiations with EPO representatives

On October 23-24, 2006 a delegation from the European Patent Office consisting of Nina Formby, Project Leader for CIS and Mongolia; Jean-Pierre Dintzner Director, Department for technical cooperation with national patent offices and Danuta Lilienthal, Assistant of the Project Leader for CIS and Mongolia visited the EAPO. From the EAPO side the delegation was headed by Khabibullo Fayazov, Vice-President and represented by Vladimir Sirotyuk, Director, Dataware Department; Saparbay Eminov Director, Procedure Automation Department; Marina Kryukova, Director, International Relations Department; Andrey Sekretov, Chief specialist, Search and Information Systems Department, and specialists of IT Departments.

The purpose of the visit was to analyze the current status of cooperation between the EPO and the EAPO realized in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Eurasian Patent Office and the European Patent Office signed in 2004 and to discuss the work plan for 2007.

Kh. Fayazov informed the meeting participants that the principal strategic policy of the EAPO is to enhance activity of the office by means of more active use of information technologies and automation systems to meet the challenges of the new century and transfer to paperless electronic documents turnover and electronic publications.

The parties have confirmed their commitment in continuation and development of cooperation in the field of information technologies, exchange of patent documentation and training the EAPO staff. The EPO confirmed its intention to continue technical assistance to the EAPO.

The results of the negotiations will be reflected in the work plan for the year 2007 and where appropriate will be supported by corresponding agreements.
