The meetings of the WIPO Assemblies 2019 held in Geneva provided a platform for discussing new areas of international cooperation of the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO).
On the margins of the Assemblies the EAPO delegation held an introductory meeting with representatives of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
The EAPO delegation informed about the peculiarities of the Eurasian patent procedure, the unitary nature of the Eurasian patent, and provided statistics on the use of the Eurasian patent system by US applicants. American colleagues shared information on the USPTO consultation activities on IP issues and on international education and training programs.
The parties discussed the prospects of bilateral cooperation, including Patent Prosecution Highway Programme (Programme PPH), the training for EAPO examiners on the specifics of the USPTO approach and practice in assessing the patentability of inventions in certain fields of technology, etc.
