On July 25, 2019, the delegation of the Corporate IP Division of the Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (Japan) accompanied by representatives of “Gorodissky & Partners” law firm visited the EAPO headquarters.
The meeting was focused on the interest of the Japanese manufacturers to the advantages in obtaining legal protection of inventions in the Eurasian region for Japanese applicants.
EAPO examiners talked about the activities of the Office, provided statistics on the use of the Eurasian patent system by Japanese applicants and applicants from other countries, and informed on the opportunities for accelerated Eurasian patent procedure provided for the Japanese applicants within the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) Pilot Programme between EAPO and JPO.
The peculiarities of the Eurasian patent procedure and its difference from the patent procedures of the European and Russian patent offices were discussed at the initiative of the Japanese visitors.
By the end of the meeting the Japanese delegation had an opportunity to visit some workplaces in the EAPO departments and to study certain procedural routines of EAPO.
