At the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum, EAPO President Grigory Ivliev emphasized that protection and enforcement of intellectual property should become an integral part of the corporate security strategy.
“Few companies have a well-planned strategy to protect their intellectual property rights. Entrepreneurs frequently consider registering a patent or a trademark only when their competitors start using their technical solutions or designations,’ stated Grigory Ivliev.
The EAPO President highlighted the following important aspects:
- IP rights protection is of a territorial nature;
- patenting has a number of advantages over the trade secrets regime;
- a proper patenting strategy minimizes the risks of technology loss.
