The Eurasian Patent Office took part in seminars organised by the Patent Office of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCCPO) — a regional IP Office bringing together Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and Bahrain.
The seminars focused on patent legislation and IP development strategy. Participants, including representatives of WIPO and the GCCPO Member States, exchanged views on improving the regional IP framework and discussed practical proposals for a strategy to further develop the IP system in the region.
Artem Ezhov, Chief Examiner and Analyst of the EAPO’s Chemistry and Medicine Department, shared the experience of the Eurasian patent system, including its development, key statistics, and patent procedures. The presentation also covered the regulatory framework, key features of the system and EAPO’s development strategy.
GCCPO and EAPO welcomed the exchange and expressed their interest in continuing cooperation.
Regional IP systems offer a convenient and cost-effective mechanism for obtaining legal protection across several countries. For users, this means lower administrative and financial costs, simplified procedures, and greater predictability; for Offices, it is an opportunity to jointly develop infrastructure, services, and strenghen examiner expertise.
