EAPO President Grigory Ivliev took part in the conference “Intellectual Property and Business: Results of the Past Year, Practice and Trends” held in Moscow.
He noted that the number of applications from European countries is decreasing, with China taking the lead. For the past three years, the number of Eurasian applications filed by Russian applicants has increased by more than 20% per year. The demand for regional IP protection systems is also growing.
This year the EAPO has been certified according to the ISO 9001 international standard. It thus confirmed that the quality management system of all the processes, starting from application filing to patent grant, complies with the highest international standards.
The Eurasian Pharmaceutical Register is another trend. This resource contains data on the patent rights of active pharmaceutical ingredients having international nonproprietary names (INN). Such information is recognized as official on the territory of the country, for example, by concluding an agreement with the EAPO.
“The Federal Antimonopoly Service has already successfully used the Eurasian Pharmaceutical Register. The resource can also be useful for litigation, for effective government procurement, and for ensuring distributors work in the legal field,” Ivliev said.
