Intellectual Property Rights Should Serve as a Driver of Economic Growth

At the 2026 St. Petersburg International Legal Forum the President of the EAPO Grigory Ivliev moderated the session titled “Structural Economic Transformation and IP Law: Interation and Development Trends”.

Speakers included Mr. Mirzo Ismoilzoda, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the EAPO and Director of the National Patent Information Center, as well as representatives from the business and academic communities and Eurasian and Russian patent attorneys.

• An effective IP system is essential for structural changes in the economy and technological development
• Russian companies’ attitude toward IP is changing: they are increasingly reviewing their IP portfolios and developing strategies to attract investment
• One of the conditions for growth is the development of new markets and a well-thought-out strategy for protecting IP abroad, primarily in the Eurasian region
• Issues related to the development of the IP economy and commercialization are universal across the entire Eurasian region
• Rospatent and FAPRID are gaining experience in improving IP valuation tools; special projects are being implemented for medical organizations
• It is important to scale up practices for providing loans secured by IP
• There is a need to develop regulations and law enforcement practices to protect exclusive IP rights on marketplaces
