At the IV International Legal Forum “Tashkent Legal Spring”, Counsel to the EAPO President Emil Mammadov highlighted the role of digital technologies at all stages of the innovation life cycle – from idea to asset.
Emil Mammadov noted that access to patent information is especially important at the stage of development of new solutions. Patent databases contain a vast amount of technical data necessary to assess the novelty and originality of inventions.
He also focused on the digitalization of procedures in the EAPO: online filing of applications and oppositions, electronic publication of the EAPO patent documentation, granting of the Eurasian patent in digital format.
The EAPO assisted the national patent offices of the EAPO Member States in implementing 3D models of objects, as well as digital exchange of priority documents and documents for cooperation between examiners.
AI tools are already in use for search, classification and machine translation. The EAPO also intends to use it for advanced formal examination of application files and for providing user support.
“Besides the tools already introduced, the EAPO intends to launch a Eurasian platform – the IP Exchange. This digital platform will facilitate the implementation of patented solutions into practical usage. Research and development work is currently underway. Its results will form the proposals and the concept of the IP Exchange,” Emil Mammadov stated.
