Vladimir Ryabovolov, vice-president of the EAPO, took part in the conference “IP in Russia: Finding Solutions Through Dialogue Between the State and Business”, organized by the Association of European Businesses.

The Association of European Businesses is an independent non-profit organization bringing together more than 380 companies that continue to work in Russia, including foreign investors.

European applicants continue to use the Eurasian patent system to protect their rights. In 2025, an increase in applications was recorded from Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Italy and the United Kingdom.

The following trends and initiatives were discussed at the conference:

— the number of Eurasian patent applications for inventions increased by 12% in 2025, with positive trends continuing this year;

— the share of applications filed by residents of EAPO member states has grown;

— China has become increasingly active in the Eurasian market, ranking 3rd in terms of the number of applications, with a 28% increase last year;

— work on international registrations under the Hague System for the International Registration of Industrial Designs is scheduled for this autumn;

— demand for the Eurasian Pharmaceutical Register has continued to grow, with the register expanding through the inclusion of new Eurasian and national patents (+16%); efforts are also underway to enable official recognition of information contained in the Register in the Russian Federation;

— the Eurasian Patent Office maintains the opinion that the IP system must remain exclusively within the legal domain. Any discriminatory measures in the field of intellectual property are inherently destructive and create legal uncertainty.
