Eurasian Perspective on AI Development

EAPO President Grigory Ivliev took part in the international conference “Intellectual Property and Artificial Intelligence” organized in Baku by the Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the World Intellectual Property Organization.

Currently, AI-related technologies are rapidly evolving, which drives a greater interest in the legal protection of new solutions and results in increased patent filings. Over the past decade, the number of patents in this field has increased nearly twentyfold.

“AI is no longer regarded as a specialized tool. It has become an infrastructural technology applied in healthcare, energy, transportation, defense, education, and finance. Inventors need protection for their breakthrough technologies,” noted Grigory Ivliev.

The EAPO President also emphasized that AI serves as a tool for processing physical data, and it transforms the operation of technical devices, which leads to a measurable technical result.

“AI regulation must primarily serve the interests of inventors, stimulate innovation and its implementation. The Eurasian patent system, in turn, provides opportunities to scale advanced solutions across the Eurasian region,” Ivliev stressed.

He also noted that an essential factor in building a competitive IP market is the implementation of AI-focused training programs aimed at informing inventors about mechanisms for protecting their intellectual property assets. As part of the seminar, Counsel to the EAPO President Emil Mammadov also made a report on the application of AI in EAPO’s activities.
