The EAPO has recorded the unprecedented increase in industrial design applications. The number of industrial design applications exceeded 500 per year for the first time in 2024.
The EAPO started accepting industrial design applications on June 1, 2021. During that period, the EAPO has received:
— in 2021 – 92 applications for 190 industrial designs;
— in 2022 – 233 applications for 639 industrial designs;
— in 2023 – 369 applications for 864 industrial designs;
— in 2024 – more than 500 applications for more than 1000 industrial designs.
In addition to the number of applications filed every year and industrial designs, the geography of users and the list of items whose external appearance is covered by an industrial design patent are also expanding.
An industrial design patent helps to protect the right to design of various items, including labels, logos, and graphic user interfaces. The Eurasian industrial design patent will cover all 8 EAPO Member states since 2025.
