EUIPO Presented its Practices of Industrial Designs to the Examiners of the Eurasian Region.

On June 17 – 18, 2021, the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO) and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) held a webinar on “Exchange of Good Practices for Design Examiners”.

The webinar was attended by over 50 examiners from national the IP offices of EAPO member states and as well as Eurasian Patent Office design examiners.

The objective was to exchange practices in the field of design examination. In particular, the webinar presented the EUIPO examination procedure for industrial design application, classification tools, approaches to working with new types of industrial designs (graphical user interfaces, virtual industrial designs, etc.), approaches of the European Union countries in terms of formalities for the application. A separate session was focused to the protection of industrial designs, procedures for contesting registration, enforcement practice and decisions of appeal bodies.

In the introductory part of the session, the audience was informed about the progress on the creation of the Eurasian system of legal protection for industrial designs and the beginning of the EAPO’s operational activities in this area.
