EAPO strengthens international cooperation: focus on IP, technology and education
EAPO President Grigory Ivliev held several bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the 66th Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO in Geneva.
Grigory Ivliev met with the Director of the Division for Transition and Developed Countries of the Regional and National Development Sector, Habip Asan. The parties discussed:
implementation of the EAPO-WIPO pilot project on enhancing IP commercialization capacity of technoparks,
Eurasian Patent Prosecution Highway program (EA-PPH),
implementation of new joint projects.
During negotiations with the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Akbar Tashkulov. The parties discussed:
exchange of expertise in the field of digitalization and IT cooperation,
possibility of exchanging specialists to participate in educational programs on IP and IT,
possibility of signing a work plan of activities to implement the Memorandum of Cooperation.
During the meeting with WIPO Deputy Director General Marco Aleman, the parties:
focused on a pilot project for technoparks and discussed holding a final seminar in autumn 2025,
discussed the Eurasian Association of Technology and Innovation Support Centers and the involvement of Russian-speaking examiners in conducting training seminars for TISCs.
Mr. Aleman supported the EAPO initiative to publish practical Guidelines on IP for technoparks.
During the meeting with the Head of the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI), Denis Bohoussou, the parties agreed:
to establish IT cooperation and exchange of patent data,
to hold seminars and videoconferences.
Mr. Bohoussou supported the EAPO initiative to promote multilingualism and eliminate language barriers at WIPO.
Grigory Ivliev also met with the Director General of the National Center of Intellectual Property of the Republic of Belarus, Alexey Kurman. The parties discussed:
advantages of a unitary trademark and a unitary utility model,
promising areas of IT cooperation between offices, including electronic filing of Eurasian applications with the NCIP with their automatic forwarding to the EAPO, integration of data from national industrial property registers into a common Eurasian register, and automated exchange of data on national patents for the Eurasian Pharmaceutical Register.
The parties also agreed to hold an educational program for specialists from the Mongolian IP Office, which will be organized by NCIP with the EAPO’s assistance.
