EAPO examiners took part in the training seminar “Clarity and unity of invention: analysis of patent applications “, organized by the EPO Academy in Munich, Germany on March 25 – 27, 2019.
Representatives of the national patent offices of Austria, Bulgaria, Hungary, Spain, China, the Russian Federation, Lithuania, Morocco, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Tunisia, Turkey, France, the Czech Republic, Estonia, and the African Intellectual Property Organization also attended the event.
The seminar covered issues related to the sufficiency of disclosure of the invention in the application materials, compliance with the requirements of clarity and unity of the invention in accordance with the European patent law. Issues arising at the search and examination stages of applications in various fields of technology, as well as strategies for their effective solution were reviewed on practical examples.
The seminar participants discussed the peculiarities and differences in the approaches to the determination of the compliance of an invention with the requirements of clarity and unity within the framework of European, Eurasian and national patent procedures.
The participation of EAPO examiners in training seminars of the European Patent Academy is one of the actively developing areas of cooperation and is aimed at improving the professional skills of examiners and harmonizing the practice of the two regional offices in patent search and examination.
