On June 17, 2020, representatives of the Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO) and representatives of the Hague Registry of Brands and Designs Sector and the Department for Transition and Developed Countries of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) discussed the accomplished and upcoming stages of establishment of the Eurasian system of legal protection of industrial designs.
WIPO representatives were informed on the status of ratification of the Protocol for the Protection of Industrial Designs to the Eurasian Patent Convention (EAPC) by the EAPC Contracting States and the prospective terms of its entry into force.
EAPO representatives briefed on the preparation of the Office for the beginning of practical activities in the field of industrial designs and elaboration of normative legal acts specifying the Protocol provisions. The parties discussed the importance of reflecting the modern design protection trends in the acts under elaboration.
Following the meeting it was agreed to continue cooperation on accession of the Eurasian Patent Organization to the Hague Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Industrial Designs. WIPO representatives offered to provide support on various aspects of the procedure, including the preparation of statements that accommodate specific features of regional design legislation.
