Diplomatic Conference to Conclude and Adopt a Design Law Treaty (DLT) was held in Riyadh
This new international treaty creates a legal framework that will harmonize the national legislation in the field of industrial design protection and simplify the formal requirements for applications. This harmonization offers great integration opportunities and aids in the ongoing convergence of law enforcement procedures.
EAPO President Grigory Ivliev took part in the Diplomatic Conference.
“We congratulate you on the challenging finalization of the DLT text. We are convinced that the adoption of this treaty will be an important milestone in the global processes of harmonization of IP registration. It’s especially important that the new treaty reflects regional registration systems of industrial designs,” said Mr. Ivliev.
DLT will significantly contribute to such agreements as the Patent Law Treaty (2000), Trademark Law Treaty (1994) and Singapore Treaty on the Law of Trademarks (2006). These treaties make the filing and registration procedures for the main IP objects in different countries more effective.
The Diplomatic Conference resulted in the adoption of the DLT. The Eurasian Patent Office and the Member States of the Eurasian Patent Organization signed the final act.
