Astana hosted the XII International Forum “Anti-counterfeiting.” The participants discussed the issues of legal regulation, customs control, certification, development of e-commerce, and use of IT technologies in intellectual property.
EAPO examiner Assemgul Abenova participated in the section ‘Pre-trial and judicial dispute resolution related to infringement of trademark rights.’ The session focused on the absence of a specialized judicial system on IP in Kazakhstan and the importance of harmonizing approaches to the opposition system – filing of oppositions against trademark registration.
Assemgul Abenova presented the practical aspects of assessing the patentability of industrial designs, involving some elements confusingly similar to trademarks. She highlighted the importance of information exchange with national patent offices on registered trademarks. This would help to reduce the number of disputes between business entities.
Counsel to the EAPO President Emil Mammadov awarded the gold medal named after V.I. Blinnikov to the inventors of Kazakhstan.
The awardees include:
- Abdilda Meirbekov – PhD in Engineering, Professor, current member of the International Academy of Informatization of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Honored Inventor of the Republic of Kazakhstan (for promoting invention);
- Kamida Iskakova – PhD in Biology (for promoting patent practice in the Eurasian region).
