For the first time, the Eurasian Patent Office has received an industrial design application containing the maximum number of designs permitted: 100 designs within a single class of the International Classification for Industrial Designs (Locarno Classification).
Important reminder: application requirements under the Eurasian industrial design system are highly optimized. Designs included in a single application are not examined for a common creative concept, or so-called unity of design.
Grigory Ivliev, President of the EAPO:
“These applications demonstrate the flexibility of the Eurasian patent system. We hope that the Eurasian industrial design becomes even more widely used among applicants. At present, industrial designs remain an underutilized type of intellectual property, with significant untapped potential.”
▪️ A Eurasian industrial design patent is granted for 5 years from the filing date and provides protection simultaneously in eight countries
▪️ A single Eurasian application may include up to 100 industrial designs within one Locarno class, even if the designs differ in their creative concept
▪️ The patent can be renewed every five years, for a total maximum term of up to 25 years from the filing date
▪️ Renewals may be effected for all or only selected designs included in the patent
▪️ Any renewal applies across the territories of all member states simultaneously
Applications published after the preliminary examination can be found on the EAPO website: Applications and Patents – Published Industrial Design Applications.
