The Eurasian industrial design protection system has surpassed the milestone of 2,000 applications.
To date, more than 2,000 applications covering over 4,700 industrial designs have been filed through the Eurasian procedure.
The EAPO began accepting Eurasian industrial design applications on 1 June 2021. Since then, the regional system has attracted users from more than 30 countries, while the submitted designs have covered all 32 classes of the International Classification for Industrial Designs (Locarno Classification).
The Eurasian patent system offers new opportunities for regional design protection by:
— allowing up to 100 industrial designs within the same Locarno class to be included in a single title of protection;
— providing protection for industrial designs in eight states;
— granting protection for an initial term of five years from the filing date without annual maintenance requirements, with the possibility of renewal for additional five-year periods up to a maximum term of 25 years.
