Plenipotentiary representatives of the EAPO Member States, CIS Deputy Secretary General Ilhom Nematov, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexander Pankin delivered greetings and welcoming speeches at the solemn ceremony dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Eurasian patent system.
Ata Annaniyazov, Chairman of the Administrative Council of the Eurasian Patent Organization and Head of the State Service for Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, expressed gratitude to the EAPO Member States for their contribution to the discussions on all the Eurasian projects being implemented within the framework of the Eurasian Patent Organization.
“On behalf of Turkmenistan, which was the first country to ratify the Convention, I would like to congratulate all the Plenipotentiaries, government officials and delegations of the EAPO Member States. All these years we have been working efficiently in a multilateral format, demonstrating flexibility and adhering to the principles of respectful and mutually beneficial partnership. As a result, joint projects on the development of information and examination cooperation and educational programs are being systematically expanded,” stated Mr. Annaniazov.
According to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexander Pankin, the importance of intellectual property and integration in this field, especially in Eurasia, is significantly increasing in the current environment.
“We can assert that the signing of the Convention in 1994 turned out to be a major milestone for the whole Eurasian patent information space and cooperation. For over 30 years, the Convention has been providing simplified procedures for obtaining a unitary and reliable patent for the results of intellectual activity and harmonized protection of rights within the Eurasian region. This contributes to the competitiveness of the economies and the development of the EAPO Member States’ innovation potential.
The Eurasian Patent Organization plays a leading role in the development of the patent system in the region. It is one of the most successful integration projects in the post-Soviet space. Currently, the EAPO still provides a reliable platform for examination and information cooperation,” said Mr. Pankin.
According to CIS Deputy Secretary General Ilhom Nematov, the Eurasian Patent Convention has played a significant role in the protection of intellectual property in the CIS.
“I have the pleasure to announce that an international intergovernmental agreement on the creation of the Eurasian patent system was signed precisely 30 years ago. It has been successfully operating for 30 years. By establishing a legal foundation for a single patent, it has significantly contributed to the protection of intellectual property in the CIS,” said Mr. Nematov.
Director of the Intellectual Property Center State Institution under the Ministry of. Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan Bakhodir Sagdullaev informed about further cooperation between the Eurasian Patent Office and Uzbekistan.
“This year the Eurasian Patent Office and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan signed a Memorandum of Cooperation. I think this is just the first step. Furthermore, we still have a lot of joint potential activities. This event is a great opportunity for our colleagues to express their ideas. It will allow us all to strengthen our cooperation,” said Mr. Sagdullayev.
