30 years of the Eurasian Patent Convention — 30 countries in the Eurasian system for legal protection of industrial designs

The geographic scope of industrial design registration reached 30 countries in September, in the year of the 30th anniversary of the Eurasian patent system.

The Eurasian Patent Office received the first application from the Republic of Cyprus. A few days ago it received an application from the UAE.

In 2024, Russian applicants rank first in terms of the number of applications submitted. Chinese applicants ranked second this year, with multiple increase in the number of applications submitted. The Republic of Belarus and the United Kingdom have positive dynamics as well.

Note that different designs, ranging from the external appearance of packaging and household items to the design of machines, graphics and graphical user interface pages, are patentable.

One Eurasian application may contain up to 100 industrial designs from one class of the International Classification. An applicant may also include a 3D model in his application. An industrial design patent protects the rights to an original design of any product and supplement the intellectual property portfolio.
